Good questions but obviously too simple for such a "complex?" problem. I am sure Neocon will provide one of his more long winded, but oh so articulate, answers to these simple questions.
Maybe he can explain why it is so easy for us to blow $8Bn+ on the 21st century Maginot Line which is a partial cause of the current deficit but we cannot honor our debt to the SS System without filling the pockets of the Wall Street crooks?

The Treasury bills in the "trust fund" have nothing to do with the perception of obligation on the part of the United States government. With or without T- bills, the government will be expected to pay, unless an alternative consensus is reached, or another solution is found. And the rate at which it will have to pay out will increase at a fairly rapid rate, thus putting increasing pressure on the general budget, because of the retirement of the baby boomers.......
