Intel Accidentally Lets the Cat Out of the Bag (extract from client server news December 2-8 issue)

Intel's darling marketing people sent out a bunch of invitations to meet with the company at the ISSCC shindig in
February and, although they reportedly weren't supposed to, managed to pre-announce the scared clock rate of
Madison, the coming next-generation Itanium 2, as being 1.5GHz, a 50% boost from the existing McKinley.

Intel has subsequently confirmed the statistic - which is what we've said it was gonna be anyway - along with the fact that the widget will have 410 million transistors and a die size of 374 square millimeters.

It's also supposed to take 130 watts.

There are now concerns of overheating being the price of the speed bump.
