Jon- The funny thing is that WB really does like Coke, Cherry Coke. Even has it for breakfast when the cameras aren't on him. Don't know about DQ. I just think it is really funny to try to make invidious comparisons between the likes of Irwin Jacobs and Warren Buffet. Both are the genuine article. End of story. Tom

Has the "man on the street" heard of Leucadia, Ian Cumming, Joseph Steinberg ?

Of course I have heard of the Leucadia guys. And the Leucadia guys, unlike some people on this board, are informed enough and intelligent enough to have a great deal of respect for Buffet's investment acumen and thus have partnered up with Buffet on numerous occasions for numerous investment opportunities.

From the Chairman's (Buffet's) 2001 Letter to Stockholders:
berkshirehathaway.com
Leucadia and Berkshire formed a jointly-owned entity ¾ mellifluently christened Berkadia.

From Koplik:
have out-performed Warren Buffett's (and Berkshire Hathaway's) performance over a huge, extended period of time.

Buffet has been successful for so long that the sheer size of the capital he has to try to deploy successfully hangs like an anchor around his neck. Great investments in smaller opportunities don't jack the results like they used to. A lot of people have outperformed Buffet over the last decade or so. A more interesting, valid comparison would be Berkshire's record versus Leucadia's record when the businesses were similar size.

Huey

OT-Nigerian Reporter Faces Death Over Miss World Story
A state in northern Nigeria has decreed an Islamic fatwa death sentence on the author of a newspaper story on the Miss World (news - web sites) pageant that sparked riots in which more than 200 people were killed, an official said Tuesday.
"What we are saying is that the Holy Koran has clearly stated that whoever insults the Prophet of Islam, Mohammad, should be killed," Zamfara State Commissioner for Information Umar Dangaladima Magaji told Reuters.
