Yeah, well actually I never had much against Roach until his prior "end of year outlook" reports were posted on the Mita thread. (the poster was trying to say that Roach was right then and right now). For 1998, one of his quotes was "the best thing about 1998 is that it is over". That stuck in my mind.

For visionaries, 1998 had to be one of the most tremendous years in decades... the internet exploded with Amazon's 300mm xmas quarter, Dell was running on all cylinders etc. it really was an optimistic time and the stock mkt reflected it (with the exception of the LTCM crisis but this report was written Jan 1999).

Of course some industries weren't too happy with the impending shift, I understand... it was not a great year for oil for example. Still, for a global economist to be bearish wrt 1998 is telling , is it not?

I understand everyone with a bearish slant has been right the last 3 years but some of these people are broken clocks and are being given too much credit jmo.
