clap,

You raise some good points. Of course, now I get to argue. <G>

One of the reasons why the Yanks consistently have one of the better teams on the field is because they have perhaps the smartest businessmen owning and running the corporation.

While I don't disagree that they run a business well (and don't begrudge them enjoying success for their efforts at all), it also helps tremendously that they are THE team with the most storied tradition (Ruth, Gehrig, Dimaggio, Mantle, et. al.) in the largest media market. The Yankees' local television contract brings them more money ($50 million?) every year than probably half the league combined. The Expos don't even HAVE a local t.v. contract.

Take a look at the free agents this year.
I don't think we will see them set new record high
contracts.

I think A-Rod set the market top for a while. Giambi may have caught the bounce/retest of the high, and now its downhill a bit. The luxury tax has even the Yanks paring down a bit. I read last week that Steinbrenner is in the process of eliminating the Dental Plan for the office/clerical employees.

March Madness is huge.

March Madness is a perfect blend of hype, drama and emotion in college sports for my taste. Every year, it seems that a Cinderella team somehow manages to challenge the power teams in the tournament, unlike in pro sports where the large market teams seem to dominate indefinitely.

So, you think Clemens will return to the Yankees?
