If it succeeds in raising import prices and reducing the current account deficit, then it will at least be a step in the right direction. It will come at the price of eroded purchasing power for dollar-denominated assets. Why the hell would anyone want to own a US Treasury security now that the government has said that it is going to dilute you until the debts of society are manageable? The only answer is hard assets or Euro debt. I'm starting to think they are even better answers than short-selling.
