MM, were ? NYC - you must be kidding - rent stabilized apartment go up around 30% above reported inflation. Free market rents went up ballistic around 20% pro year from 1996 to 2000 and now corrected a bit.

For example an apartment that went for $1,300 - $1,400 in 1996 was asked for $2,300 to 2,600 in 2000, now it is down to around $2,000 - $2,200 ........ and never showed up in inflation numbers

mm see this one -- Inflation at 3.4% rate last month to date 2.7% FED Funds 1.25 % negative rates of 1.5% if not more will only accelerate inflation but not the economy. Last year CPI was 1.6%
