It may be that in five or ten years their animus will dissipate I had in mind years, not months, but not five or ten, perhaps two. Appeasement has never seemed to me a very productive strategy. I was not suggesting appeasement. Everyone would see right through that. And the hypocrisy of it could add to the total enmity. If you can't fess up from the heart, I wouldn't advise trying to bluff it. That might be a step up from trying to negotiate it, but only a small one.
