At Penn State, Lydell was the feature back and it was believed he would have the more successful career of the two at the NFL level.

Obviously they were wrong

Max, the man amazes me; his humility is even more surprising as he credits his offensive line for blowing open the holes for him to run. The sign of a true champion. I will tell you this of Johnson and this team, pencil in Iowa, Ohio State, and Michigan at the tail end of their season and they may well have gone undefeated (all nationally ranked teams they lost to). This team played like a top 5 team the last 3 weeks. IMO they are going to stomp the crap out of whoever their bowl opponent is :) Mike

Max here is an after-game quote from Paterno concerning promoting players for the Heisman.
How do you characterize the active promotion of athletes?
I don’t think it does any good. I get all that junk and it goes into the wastebasket. We have another couple of games to play and you step back at the end of the season. John Cappelletti got it. He did almost what Larry has done and he won it.
