You are right. Had I a second chance I would rephrase or at least add something like this: things are done by others not for our own, but for their own motives. There's common, there's divergent and there's antagonistic motives in everything. Just sticking to permanent members of the security council, you can safely assume there's the common ground of the fight against terrorism and the way to proceed with Iraq on the basis of the resolution.
