clap, I don't disagree with your points, but MLB is different from the NFL. Personally I think the NFL has the right idea with their system of equal revenue sharing throughout the league. The owners were smart enough to see how this would level the playing field and put a cap on player salaries. It really puts a heavy focus on coaching. 2 differences. First, the NFL has a television contracts with the networks that don't enable the individual teams to negotiate their own individual local deals; all games are network broadcasts, so the primary revenue source is controlled by the league itself (which goes a long way toward putting the teams on a more equal footing financially). Baseball is entirely different, where the Yanks have a huge advantage financially with their local TV contract that they clearly put to good use. Second, the NFL Players Association has taken to heart that revenue sharing and a salary cap combined keep the league healthy, which benefits the players. The MLB Players Association has watched salaries increase for 25-30 years since free agency came into being. While many owners have complained that the game is in jeopardy, the owners as a group haven't been unified and the players have taken advantage (and who can blame them?). While I'm not a big A's fan, watching what they've done with a minimal payroll given baseball economics is truly amazing. jpg
