Interesting piece of history there. Quite interesting. And quite different from marcos' simplistic we-are-always-the-pure-noble-good-guys-you-are-always-the-rapacious-bad-guys version. That sounds like it could have been torn right out of some murky piece of US history. Or English or French or German or .... or real human history.

One would have to eventually cancel the other one out.
Or eventually learned to live with one another. The English and French had been enemies forever until WW1. Then they found they needed each other.

Fortunately the US and Canada got there without all the bloodshed.

U.S. dollars invested in Canadian enterprise and the sale of raw goods to the U.S. keep the country afloat. This fact is lost on most of our politicians who have never actually been involved in any business enterprise before entering the holy ranks of civil service. Practical things a child who runs a lemonade stand learns like don't spend more than you can possibly take in via sales would be lost on 99% of our politicos.
The great majority of ours flunk that test also.
