Win,

Specifically since you like to state - 'be careful or you will be called a traitor if you oppose the war' or something like that - I asked you to point out anytime Bush or a memeber of his administration did that. What the heck - I could have missed it (and there are few people there I don't like).

In response - more sarcasm - and a reference to Rush. When did he get elected or appointed into office?

If a Republican must carry the burden of everything said by Rush and Co, do Democrats have to accept personal blame for the Nation of Islam crowd (and other extremists)?

I don't think any of our regular posting community who support intervention would call a disenting opinion on Iraq a traitor (am I wrong?). You however like to accuse those you disagree with as being very mean and nasty. Anyone with a differing view is a bloviator or propagandist.

Straight out question - did you support intervention in Somolia and Kosovo? If so - why, and if not why.

John

I don't really care that much any more.... everybody's so busy gloating about around here....

Hey, Win. We understand that it is tough to be on the left after Nov 5. Buck up! You are only going to have to spend the rest of your life with the right running things. :^)

Win, no one in their right mind wants war, whether they belong to the left or the right. It is therefore unfair to label the conservatives here as bloodthirsty ogres. What I believe most have concluded is that war with Iraq is probably inevitable and justified. Emphasis on the word "probably", as you will see below.

Your characterizations of us as a bunch of Limbaugh-loving saber-rattlers is in error. We disagree among ourselves. In fact, I have openly criticized the latest iteration of the Bush foreign policy statement, the one which tells the world that we will not allow any one country or group to become militarily stronger than the U.S. It was not needed, it was arrogant, and will create ill-will for us. Better to talk softly and carry a big stick.

As far as Iraq is concerned, the ideal resolution is for Saddam to be ousted by his own military. In that regard, I think the US has done a masterful job of making sure that Saddam's military understands that it will be decimated again and that any use of WMDs will result in individual prosecution of those who obey Saddam. The political game has been played well, too, with the Iraqi military surely aware that Syria went along with the UN resolution.

Saddam's isolation is total, creating a strong possibility, in my opinion, that he will be removed by his own people. If that ideal resolution doesn't take place, then war is inevitable. Unless, of course, Saddam voluntarily stops his WMFD programs and allows full and appropriate inspections to take place. If you believe he will, then you are far more optimistic than I am.

The US has essentially isolated Saddam politically while at the same time taking credible steps to make sure that the Iraqi military is well aware that they will suffer in the event of a war. Given those conditions, I would not be at all surprised if a coup takes place. Should it happen, I fully expect the left to crow about the unnecessary expense, the bullying of Iraq, yada, yada, yada, and ignore the Administration's well laid out and well executed plans that might make such a result possible.
