most people hankering for 'clean' energy don't know what they are wanting -- right now for us the spread between natural gas fired energy and coal fired (we have both, of course, because a mix is most economic) amounts to 3X

there is no way you could eliminate our dependence on coal -- which accounts for over 50% of our energy needs -- but suppose in some fairy tale we could and we needed no additional capital in the pipelines or plants to do that -- would you go for a 3-fold increase right now??

But what can you do on the individual level to reduce pollution -- simply use less -- how willing are you to do that?

Instead you ought to be thankful that the US has such an abundant resource in the low-sulfur western coal ... this resource means a relatively higher standard of living for everyone in the states as compared to countries that don't have such a resource.
