When I said that Canadians desire peace more than Americans it was an observation, you characterize it as a criticism of the driving - if it is as you say the "Free World", why would it need a driver ?
If Canada is a democracy, why do its political parties have leaders? Why can't each MP act entirely on his own?

The US ended up being the "driver" because it emerged from WW2 by far the strongest power in the non-Communist world. Since its soldiers and its weapons would do the fighting in case of a major conflict, it made most of the decisions. Would Canada not insist on the same in the same position?

"Desiring peace". Sounds good. Actually it reminds of the Communist propaganda about their "peace-loving peoples". Pacifism is a practical course only if everyone is a pacifist.

The pressure group's list - the first of its kind - has been compiled according to levels of censorship, arrests and killings of journalists, state monopoly ownership and legal restrictions.
Right. We have lots of censorship, arrests and killings of journalists, state monopoly ownership and legal restrictions on the press here. Sure. You been here?

The fact is that the gov't has problems keeping legitimate military secrets secret.

The United States has been involved in numerous conflicts without the backing of other countries in the "Free World", inherited leadership notwithstanding.
So what? Are you going to tell me Britain, when it was a world power, asked any other nation's permission before opening fire? Did the Soviets ask the UN's permission before invading Hungary or Czechoslovakia?
