The loyalists chose their side at that time because it was the way that resisted anarchy There were plenty of anarchists among the Loyalists. Ever hear of the Plumstead Cowboys in Pennsylvania? I found these rascals from the Doan family while doing genealogy research. They made their living thru a combination of spying for the British and stealing from the Whigs. Along the way they also killed a few British when the the mood suited them. Not sure if they're related to the Doans who later caused the ruckus in Canada.
