The lack of volatility is certainly what makes it difficult and the diverse fundamentals can cause problems with long term predictions. QQQ is well suited to swing trading tho, being based on the NDX 100. There are futures available so you can be stop protected overnight, and there are NDX related indicators like $BPNDX, $VXN that are pretty good clues for turning points.
