Verification doesn't need to be complicated or extensive. It depends on the importance of the issue to one.

And whether one even needs to verify depends on whether one really cares whether a statement is in fact true or not. Many things are said in life which it really doesn't matter whether are true or false. So it doesn't hurt to assume they're true, and it doesn't hurt to assume they're false.

But in some cases, if you assume something is true and don't verify and it turns out to be false, you can be badly hurt. That's how scam artists, stock brokers, etc. make their money.

If you assume something is false until you verity, scam artists and stockbrokers and their ilk can't hurt you.
