We're still at the same point of disagreement.

When you talk about accountabily, the problem IMO is that you only go one way.

You say that you are accountable for the foreseeable results of your words.

But I hold the hearer accountable for the choice they make of how to respond to your words. Some ways of responding are more foreseeable than others, but all are controllable. Why let the other person dictate your response? And why claim that you are not accountable for the way you respond?

If you're going to demand accountability, demand it for both the speaker and the hearer. And realize that the hearer has the "last word" in that it's the hearer who decides how to respond.

Clearly we're talking words here, and words not in the context of immediate presence. Obviously it's different if I say "take this, you b@$____ and start swinging my fist. There, the response is instinctive, and rightly so.

But here on SI, there is time to reflect on the words and decide how to respond. You have to hit the "respond" key, type your response, and then hit the Submit key. I think that the responder in that case has to accept accountability for their response.
