It's reasonable to prosecute someone reselling or giving away someone else's property digital or otherwise, but the distributors' real fear is that artists will go direct.

It's a panic response to technology revolution that will overwhelm the middlemen, who want to take an elitist approach rather than consider the customer. The distributors have even announced they are designing viruses to scare people and damage their equipment. They sold you this stuff, but if you don't have the right frame of mind, they destroy your hard drive. We can expect more of this typical oligopoly policy ad infinitum, if we don't get consumer-citizens' control over government.

Anything that can be seen or heard can be redigitized, so until they crypto-key our brains, they'll be fighting a losing battle, but it'll be damaging to both sides and chew up lots of resources unnecessarily. (Plus it only encourages them to think of ways to crypto-key our brains.)

The worldwide corp and government effort is moving towards privatizing the internet, which is vaguely possible (by legislation controlling BGP protocol, the ISPs and funding cyber attacks on uncooperative ISPs), but like the old phone network, there will always be hackers who will be too good at what they do to justify the cost of keeping them out.

Similar to the robber barons, it's all bought and paid for in Washington, without regard to citizens who's pockets are picked and privacy threatened.

Dont' expect any positive development with this Terrorist Administration, they're too busy working on the "scare the voters, then save them in time for the next election" strategy.
