Putting a premium on all that love and spiritual stuff is just a value judgement. If it make you feel all warm and gooey then I guess it works for you. But other than that what purpose does it serve? Personally I like hot hammered and cold rolled gold. Cold as a tax collector's smile, heavy as a hudson bay blanket and shiny as a new car chrome bumper. Funny that no matter how heavy the gold is you can carry it for miles with little effort. If I had a ton of it I would find a way to put it in a Volkswagen Beetle and drive away.

You can take that message to those enlightened ones in Nigeria whose lofty values have lead them to enforce the point of the sanctity of their beliefs to a very fine degree, thereby, paradoxically, proving that the rigid adherence to these beliefs is not a terribly good guarantee of tolerable behaviour.

I am sure that the saints approve of bloodthirsty people as they are their most dedicated defenders.

This striving also seems to make them want to love their fellow man and (do) extreme acts of selflessness toward others are being reported.

I know what you mean. But there are lots of folks for whom this is meaningless/gibberish. To the mystic or someone with a strong mystical bent, certain things become self-evident only through frequent and long periods of contemplation and meditation or "communing"/communion with Higher Forces. Eventually, a gnosis or apperception occurs which reveals the truth for the seeker.

Anyone not familiar with mystical literature and/or the experiences of mystics will have a hard time understanding what you mentioned.
