Smoke blowing and reverse smoke blowing!!! Yes, I think you have identified a common boxing ring phenomena. It gets pretty silly some times, especially when both are in full operation.

I, for one, am going to make a sincere effort to hold my smoke...with allowances for an occassional puddle splashing.

You are doubtless right, skins are too thin around here, generally. But you are the one constantly pushing the practical point of view, right? If I do not want to spend inordinate amounts of time in repartee with someone playing the wet hen, it would be best for me not to jab people too often. In other words, regardless of their thin skins, I cannot force them to toughen up, so I either accept that I will offend people, and have to deal with their recriminations, or I cool it. If I offend them for no good reason, I am being an ass, just as surely as if I jostled someone who bruised easily.

Now, it is true that Jewel is not a shrinking violet, and would not wither under the stupid insult Chris offered. But whether Jewel's feeling were hurt was not the issue. The inherent offensiveness of such an insinuation was the issue. It was an attempted assault, whether or not it failed, and something which should be discouraged in any forum.

Finally, as I have noted in previous posts, my analysis can equally run for the listener, and his response. I was focusing on an overt act, however, that precipitated something.........
