"What degree of responsibility does the pushee bear? If there is contributory negligence, what is the percentage of blame on each side?"

Each side, Pusher and Pushie, bears responsibility for their informed choices, whether it be action or self restraint. However, it should be noted that where deception plays a role the deciever takes on the greater burden of responsibility. If I do not know the extent of alcohol content in my drink and you have double or triple loaded it, then you the pusher has assumed the greater portion of responsibility for the outcome. The argument that I should not be so naive does not hold water. The assumption for responsibility in this kind of relationship is based on trust not on distrust. The one who violates that assumption is responsible. Likewise if you percieve that I am very needy for attention and you use all of your charms to convince me that more and more drinks will make you like me more, you have violated the trust I gave you to care for me as a friend.

When people queue up to be pushed, and seem to like it, does one have an obligation to paternalistically protect them from their desire to be pushed?

People come to Sharks knowing what they will find here. The responsibility for being here, rests with pushees and pushers alike- although everyone here wears both hats. Some of us just wear the hats better than others.
