>> In addition you seem to jump all over anyone who has an inclination to short any stock.

I just think shorting AMAT at 16 or 17 is silly, especially coming from people who did not short it at 100 or 50. And I am 100% convinced that the deep drops of July and early October this year were caused by concerted Hedge Fund shorting expressly coordinated to panic investors and cause margin calls and bankrupt many people. I am not saying that about anyone on our thread, but I wouldn't put past the average hedge fund manager.

My main problem with shorting after this very modest recent rally is really a question I've asked before. If the prospective shorter could not foresee the up-turn in mid October, why do they think they have any way to foresee the point of a down-turn ?

And regarding RO's losses. His method as expressed in his posted trades should be taught in trade school. As a sure path to financial ruin.

**OT**

Most shorts are simply trying to make money just like all the rest of us.

Just my opinion....take it FWIW.

I understand that shorting is a part of the market and we "need" them to some extent. But watching the shorts rejoice in the year following 9/11 was particularly distasteful to me personally. When a bomb goes off or a plane crashes somewhere in the world, I do not profit, nor should I. Anyone who has made money on the short side over the past year has probably at least in part made it because a tragedy has befallen someone somewhere. This is wrong no matter how you try to justify it.

Again, I am probably alone in this belief, but so be it. Watching the behavior of the shorts over the past year, I am not sure I could ever engage in that activity, even 50 years from now.
