Tenchusatsu,

I think it has been hailed as an achievement by many Republicans, including Reagan, when they cut income taxes of many of the poor to zero. I think that any future increases in the excemptions and standard deductions are unwise. It's too bad that these are indexed for inflation. I really don't think there should be exemption to adult taxpayers, maybe only for dependents. The standard deduction should not be a fixed amount, but a percentage of perhaps Adjusted Gross Income.

This combined with Bushes establishment of reasonably low, 10% rate for poor taxpayers would make sure that every income earner has some stake in the operation, taxation and spending of the government.

Next, after making sure that all taxpayers have a financial stake in the government, there should be some way for this to be the case even for non-taxpayers, but I haven't thought of a way to do that.

Meanwhile, my girlfriend, who grew up in the Bronx, will soon be making money and joining the very people Democrats have been vilifying for years. And she voted for Gore! <G>

I think it helps if a husband and wife (if you get that far with your girlfriend) roughly share the same political philosophy.

Joe
