Paul Marshall, Rod Dreher and David Frum all touch on the reluctance of the American press to include Christians as potential hate-crime victims in America, or report on anti-Christian violence abroad, the vast majority of which is inspired by Militant Islam. Paul Marshall notes that although Osama bin Laden couldn't be clearer about targeting Christians (whom he calls "Crusaders") and Jews, this always seems to turn into the euphemism "The West" in the American press. Even obvious targeting of Christian sites in Pakistan and Indonesia do not get reported as Christian targets.nationalreview.com Rod Dreher notes a number of murders in America, the Mary Witherall murder in Lebanon, and Miss World riots Nigeria where the victims were chosen because they were Christian. He notes a pattern of underreporting the American murders and applying moral equivalence in Nigeria and Lebanon, all in a seeming effort to downplay the story of Christians as targets.nationalreview.com David Frum also notes the NY Times coverage of the Witherall murderYesterday, the New York Times--yes, them again!--ran this amazing headline to describe the murder of an American missionary in Lebanon: “Killing Underscores Enmity of Evangelists and Muslims.” Yes, those missionaries and those Muslims really hate each other: Bonnie Witherall showed her hatred by offering free prenatal care to indigent Lebanese; the local Muslim clerics were naturally goaded by this outrage and killed her. nationalreview.com
