Because the companies don't exist to give anyone as much as they can get but to survive as viable enterprises.

Failing to do so cause the following:

Their shares plummet, like happened just now. Their credit ratings go down to junk, they can raise capital, the investors get burned and not return. Sounds like what happened in the last three years? For me at least does.

Now capital will seek new pastures and the countries that have these type of CEO's and these types of workers will go down.

That's like asking why don't we legalise murder given that so many people commit it.
