Man held for ritual child murders news24.com Lagos - Members of a militant ethnic group in Nigeria have seized a 31-year-old man suspected of kidnapping 100 children for use in ritual murders, the state-run Daily Times reported Sunday. Members of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) seized Yekini Ifalowo on Thursday after he attempted to abduct a school girl in the Isolo area of Lagos, the paper said. The report said Ifalowo had confessed to having kidnapped around 100 children in the past two years. The children were then killed and their body parts sold on for ritual purposes to herbalists. Ifalowo was said to have made about $11 000 from the business. Incidents of kidnapping for ritual murders are growing across Nigeria. Though Islam and Christianity are widespread here, pagan and animist traditional beliefs remain deeply entrenched and many belief systems demand sacrifices and taboo body parts -- eyes, genitalia and breasts -- for their rituals. Last week, the OPC arrested and detained a man in south west Nigeria over the suspected ritual murder of a woman. On Tuesday, police in the central city of Jos arrested a 50-year-old man accused of beheading a young boy and removing his eyes for use in a magic ritual. ? Sapa-AFP
