I just got back from some time splitting kindling and more firewood. Despite my protestations that open fires are more expensive than not because they draw more heat out of the house up the chimney than they produce as heat in the room, she loves an open fire. And you know who is responsible for cutting the wood and kindling, hauling it,starting the fire, keeping it going, and cleaning out the ashes, don't you? Yep. Oh well. It's better than what some women want. Cheaper than diamonds and less traumatic than eating out. So I guess it's a fair trade-off.
