I cannot prove this, but from what I have been reading over the years, I think it is not so much the Islamists that are tortured in Turkey.

First and foremost, torture appears to be very usual, done even to petty criminals, possibly for no better reason than amusement for the policemen at the station. So it is not a surprise that the Islamists got a taste of that as well.

However, they were probably not that badly tortured. If you took a look at the links I sent the other day, there are even children who were mutilated for life, for the "crime" of having written somewhat political graffiti on a wall.

Police hold Islamists in much higher esteem than, say, dissidents who want separation of a Kurdish state. Now those have some torture stories.
