Heinlein was awarded the NASA Distinguished Service Medal, the highest NASA civilian award. Perhaps no story is more illustrative of the character of Mr. Heinlein than the one told by Dr. Jerry Pournelle during that ceremony, here is a brief excerpt from Requiem and Tributes to the Grand Master
