Capt., I'm not defending any actions of the N. Vietnamese in how they handled POWs and I'm not suggesting anyone should forget anything about that war. On the contrary - remember and keep after the gov't to do what's right now. But that does not mean one should condemn a whole nation of 80 million people for something that happened 30 years ago. It was a war and our side was far from innocent and noble in all its actions. Forget and forgive are not the same thing. Try to do the latter.

PS: My dad was stationed in Da Nang with the Marines (support role - he did his infantry duty in Korea) when I was nine. He thought it was a beautiful country and a tragic war. He also lost friends and family to the Japanese (and Germans), who also committed atrocities against POWs as well as civilians, in WWII, but loved being stationed in Okinawa and happily buys Japanese products (and enjoys German beer when I pay for it;-). So no, I wasn't there, but my point stands.
