Jean Chrétien wants a postage stamp issued with his picture on it.
So, he instructs his people, stressing that it should be of the highest quality, recognized internationally.

The stamps are created, printed and released. Jean Chrétien is very
pleased. But within a few days of the stamp's release, he is hearing
complaints that the stamp is not sticking, and he becomes infuriated.

He calls the people responsible and orders them to investigate the
matter. They check the matter out at several post offices, and they
report the problem to Chrétien.

The report states, "There is nothing wrong with the quality of the
stamp or its adhesive. The problem is people are spitting on the wrong side."

The degree to which the separatist issue is ignored back there seems quite strong recently .. we've just had a quebecois member of the family visiting here, saying it's not on the agenda at all, rarely discussed, many of its proponents discredited for various reasons, other issues far more important .... of course this is not a de souche speaking, nor one from 'money', rather an individual from 'the ethnic vote', lol, but a person with some considerable attachment by now to the soil and the local neighbours of all lingual backgrounds ..... on the ground in Québec, in contact with many many people, and even though my french is poor to non-existent, the only memorable problem i ever had with anybody was from an italian cabbie who tried to rip me off in Montréal .... the language laws are indeed orwellian, a crying shame the way they dishonour the lovely tongue that is french, but i think we can live through this, come out the other side without losing the country .... quebecois forestry communities are under attack right now along with those of BC, there are less of them there but still it makes us allies in a cause

The Provinces
or
The Premiers

There have been epic battles and tremendous contributions by between some of Canada's premiers and the federal government. Tommy Douglas has already been mentioned, Joey Smallwood, Peter Lougheed, Rene Levesque, Ernest Manning; the list is endless. The autonomy and powers of Provincial Governments are vitally important in Confederation and each province has contributed strong components to the Canadian vision and to Confederation. People often laugh when I tell them that Saskatchewan represents the heart of our great country, they probably didn't know how many things we take for granted today originated with Mr. Douglas.
Here is link to a different Canadian that was loved by almost all, a true son.

The Progressive Conservative government in Alberta under Premier Klein has a very strong majority and Mr. Kelin knows that he speaks for Alberta. Prime Minister Chretien and Premier Klein don't see eye to eye.
