We have wide, carpeted stairs with a landing going to the basement. Good railing too. She can manage them if her hands aren't full.

My parents had a laundry chute put in and that helped the going down part. The stairway walls were an old flat white with a 40 watt bulb. When they went on vacation I painted the walls and ceiling gloss yellow and changed to a 75 watt bulb. Finally they could see when using the stairs.
