What I said was that they were a very broad-based tax, and as taxes go they raised the costs for broad sectors in the economy (homebuilding, construction, appliance manufacturing, retail, heavy industry, etc.) and cost jobs in those industries and in ports and other places. >>> As such, the tariff tax increases have a very wide effect... even broader than many other taxes. While not affecting "everyone" directly (I believe I said NO tax affects "everyone" directly), they affect more people than many other taxes do.
