T, That's what Santayana gets for daring to be an expatriate. Besides, he was really nasty when he attacked The Alamo. <g> But I remember when Tricky Dick devalued the dollar while I was in the Army in Germany. Our costs went up immediately and our pay didn't. Those living on bases didn't notice it, but I was living on the economy and the mark going from 4-1 to 2 1/2 to 1 reduced my visits to The Arabella House. <g>

I think Switzerland's economy might be stagnant, but they are fiscally conservative. And they don't have to balance a Germany in a depression against an Italy in an upswing like the Euro commissars have to do.

>>Swiss economy is essentially stagnant and that the country just thrives on hot money, and that the Euro is a much better bet as a dollar-collapse hedge. <<

The Swiss have been trying to take down the value of their currency for a while now, without much success. The truth of the matter is that CHF is a safe haven in the eyes of most people, much like gold.

CHF started going down recently after Iraq accepted UN resolution for weapons inspection. When the Bush finds some excuse to attack Iraq whether or not weapons are found (and you know he will), CHF will be flying.

Take a look at interest rates for EUR and CHF as well. It does not fill you with confidence for much downside of CHF versus EUR.

A site to get some direction on interest rates of the major currencies

leitzinsen.com

If one believes that gold will go to the moon then may be the AUD could serve some consolation, definitely favored over the CHF.
