Do you know why England instituted gun control?

That's not the point. The point is: Clever how someone can make up a claim, attribute to the other side and then disprove it. Make a note of an interesting debate tactic for other use. Nor does Thomas Sowell indicate any other reason why Britain instituted gun control. You're being manipulated, you just happen to like the way you're being manipulated.

<<Odd though that the US murder rate is on the rise>>
Where is that documented?

The DOJ just reported within the last few months that nearly every category of violent crime [including murder] is on the rise in the US. I posted the article on this thread. It was a story on every front page of the dozen or so papers I read. How could you possibly miss it?

If you would have been reading the London Times, you would have read that in reporting crime rates this year the British goverment reported that the odds of being a victim of crime in UK are lower than they were some two decades ago.

And while the article you post suggests that Britain is getting tougher on crime, the UK just this year stopped arresting and prosecuting the possession of marijuana. You would be given the equivalent of a traffic ticket. They noticed as they increased the penalties over the last decade, drug use increased. They found that while they had the toughest laws in Europe regarding drug use, they had the highest personal usage in Europe. That fact contradicts the vague claim in the piece by Sowell.

But I'm sure that won't bother you. The "editorial" from townhall was just what you wanted to hear.

Is the murder rate "on the rise" where concealed weapons are allowed? I think not.

I don't know, and I'm not sure that it would have any meaning whether it's up or down. Why would you even possibly think that people who want to carry a concealed weapon would not carry one because of a law or absence of one. It's illegal in some states to be an adulterer. Do you think that there is less adultery in those states? People do what they want to do, they don't do it only if they think they'll be caught. You won't get caught carrying a concealed weapon.
