IMO, had Israel been prepared to make an honorable settlement of land for peace a few years ago, it would probably have stuck and the Arab extremists may have gone with it but now I am sure they want nothing less than the end of Israel. This has become a very big thing. Notwithstanding the fact that most of the terrorism is directed against Israel, and for obvious reasons, the Israelis, especially Netanyahu, keep proclaiming that the problem Israel has is part of an international terrorist problem which is, in fact, directed against anyone and everyone especially the US. This is precisely the trap that the US has allowed itself to be caught in because now the US is held responsible for all the terrorism against Israel, and anyone else. Yes, the US has found itself (or perhaps I should say, put itself) right in the middle and will probably end up being hated by both the Israelis and the Muslims. Certainly, the present position of the US is invidious because, in order to prove friendship with Israel, particularly in the "war against terrorism", it has to do everything the Israeli government asks --- in fact, support Israel financially, militarily and in any other way. Strange, even ironical, how the US, having resisted its own right-wing fanatics, finds itself ensnared, and in fact led, by the Israeli right-wing fanatics.
