When discussing the MOST important part -- that is, how does one inherit an eternal life with God -- it does not really matter which "version" are what era. They all say the same thing. "Second, you seem to confuse man judging man regarding the laws of man, which is why we have a system of justice, and God judging men. You may be sure that someone has violated our laws, but you do not know what is in their heart, so you are not qualified to judge them as God would judge them." While it is true that I, nor any other human definitely knows what is in someone's heart, the Bible says "you will know them by their fruits" -- that is, how they live should give you a very big clue as to the condition of their heart. Another part of the Bible says something about "faith without works is dead". "He was showing Zacchaeus by example that the way to God (and true happiness on this earth as well) is through generosity not greed, through opening your heart (to both God and your fellow man) not closing it." I have never argued this point. I merely point out that the most important thing is to ask forgiveness of sins and accept Jesus as one's savior. This, and ONLY this will get a person into an eternal heaven someday. I really do not understand why this point (which was made by God Himself), makes so many people uncomfortable and brings out cries of "judging others" or "claiming to have the only correct religion or interpretation" or even being an "uncaring and unloving" human. One MUST accept the gift of His death. It does not automatically flow to every human, nor is it earned by "opening one's heart" or pocketbook or time or actions to man. Once this decision is made, then God says the most important rule is to love God the most and secondly, to love others as much as yourself. This does not earn you anything in eternity in and of itself. It will make your life on earth easier and happier, but without taking the first step (again, not because I or anyone else says it -- God makes it plain in His word), one still gets an eternity without God. "Lastly, I'm through debating this with you. You seem to need to label me as "un-Christian" and "uncomfortable" with what you consider to be the "only truth". SOROS, you don't know me any more than you know the guys buying the $15k wine. You don't even know if I AM Christian - not that it's any of your business." You are correct. I do not know you. But I do not have a desire or "need" to label you as anything. I only try to respond to people's words. And I don't "know" the guys who ordered the $15,000 wine. But their actions speak volumes -- at least to me. I am always saddened (but hopefully, I misinterpret and am wrong) when the topic of salvation comes up, and someone will not put into words what salvation exactly means or says it is "not anyone's business". I have a hard time when people think it is "wrong" or "improper" to share one's faith or have an in depth discussion about how to get to heaven someday since Jesus commanded that we do just that. What good is the news of an eternity if one is unwilling to tell others? Since I do not know you, you may be perfectly content and feel completely secure about your eternity. I sincerely wish you well and apologize if I was offensive or spoke out of turn. I remain, SOROS
