I would say you have to look for loyalty and low labour rates if you want to own people. It is a fact that in most modern countries today, once a person reaches adulthood, the life expectancy is about the same. Public health is more responsible than health care for longevity and freedom from disease. Food and water are the most important issues. So, in reflection, one slave is as good as another health-wise. The fr. cdn may be preferrable to other high priced NA help, as they show high employee loyalty and work cheap generally. Intellectual non competitiveness makes them generally less rebellious too, FLQ notwithstanding. The Maquiladoras south of the border tell us that the US businessman, long the world's most astute slavemaster, prefers the Mexicano slave to the Canuck. Now however the real Chinese 1.50 day, 1/2 a rice bowl worker is taking precedence. Gone are the days of the cheerful habitant, sash-emblazoned volunteer with axe in hand and corn cob pipe. He is far too expensive now, and less bilingual. Perhaps a flood of newly servile broken accent roughnecks from the deepwoods de la belle, willing to work for room and board and the odd backhander, will compete for a few years, but I fear his dominance as a labour volunteer are over.

Sniff.. I will miss Pierre and his no problem dere shovel and axe work. You no beat dat guy in de bush. He chop cotton good too. But by gar, Zu Wang Hoo at 1.50 a day or die is by far de better guy n'est-ce pas?

<<Also no language barrier. If you're going to enslave neighboring residents, I say go Canadian. >>

Sorry, I speak only very slight French.
