W-CDMA will arrive in South Korea next June courtesy of KT ICOM, KT Corp’s 3G subsidiary.

KT ICOM spokesman Choi Il Yong told the ITU TELECOM ASIA Show Daily that the operator is currently trialing a W-CDMA network in Seoul with equipment from LG Electronics.

The trial consists of a single base station with network coverage spanning an area of 1 kilometer in metropolitan Seoul, Choi said.

Choi said commercial W-CDMA service would start in June 2003 in Seoul, and then expand to the rest of the country.

KT ICOM is betting on a series of multimedia services to drive adoption of W-CDMA.

“The killer application for W-CDMA is video telephony,” Choi said. “CDMA 1x cannot do this.”

Choi also highlighted video-based multimedia messaging and video-on-demand as services being prepared for the W-CDMA launch.

KT ICOM is demonstrating the services with a LGE handset at this year’s ITU TELECOM ASIA 2002. Sources said that LGE’s main rival, Samsung Electronics, failed to deliver a working W-CDMA handset to KT ICOM in time for the event.

KT ICOM also unveiled the official brand for its W-CDMA service – G3 (or Gcube), meaning “Global Gateway for next Generation”.

Rival cellco SK Telecom said earlier that its W-CDMA unit, SKT IMT, would launch its service before the end of 2003.

OT-design-cuckoos.. I have always enjoyed some aspects of NeedlessMarcup, 500 carpenter-years of
skilled crafting of the pxbic hairs on a wooden stool for the emperor.. (and Mozart doing his
special organic cadence after turning around, his behind facing the audience, in those days)

But every village should have their village idiot, and there is often a little village idiot in all of us..

Funny stuff, that "instrument" and it's keys, is that something to come, according to the idea on
artists often the first to react on upcoming trends and the future, sometimes before anyone else, or
more like connecting to the past??

Sorry, need to retreat and make another attack to get through that text.. but it was the same with
the major Shannon theorem, took some time, withdrawal of the instruments and trying to get
deeper, or at least using another angle the next time.
