Yen Falls Versus Dollar on Shiokawa Call for Weaker Currency

Tokyo, Dec. 2 (Bloomberg) -- The yen fell against the dollar after the Mainichi newspaper Web site reported that Finance Minister Masajuro Shiokawa said Japan's currency should weaken as much as 23 percent versus its U.S. counterpart.

The yen weakened to 123.38 per dollar at 10:57 a.m. in Tokyo from 122.54 late Friday in New York. It was the biggest decline in almost two weeks. The yen also slid to 122.42 against the euro from 121.87.
