The future remains bleak to me. I don't see any way out.

Elon traces the proper context for me. I think it's still the case that without a Palestinian state, the Israelis have no long term security but that the chances of a Pa state seem slimmer all the time.

< Al Qaeda, by attacking in Mombasa, has joined the Palestinian terrorists directly>

Evidence please. Mossad's there, FBI's there, Kenyans are there. Not 1 report confirming this POV.

This article by Elon is interesting History, John. I won't bother to argue individual points in it, because it is no longer relevant to the present situation.

yes and no. I thought the piece was excellent, if horribly depressing. You're right that it doesn't describe a way out, and that bugging out isn't the same thing as not doing something in the first place. But it is an extremely lucid and hard-hitting description of Israel's self-inflicted wound.

Most Vietnam analogies are inappropriate, but here one may be useful: Israeli leaders today face the kind of situation Nixon and Kissinger did in 69, with no good options. The Elon article acidly describes the policies of the previous administrations who bequeathed them such a mess. History will not treat them kindly.
