Carl,

Well yes it would. I was suprised by this bird strike (as were the pilots) because we were already up a ways. However, this did afford them the time to react.

If it had happened at under 1,000 feet - it would have involved a catastrophic event.

I don't mean to imply that all commercial aircraft can survive engine strikes in all situations - just that it is possible to lose an engine shortly after takeoff and survive.
