true, there was no such thing as layoffs in networking until...the bear was at least a year old. I know that Chambers resisted as long as he could since he believed that the cycle would turn up and he didn't want to be under staffed when it did. My understanding that his staff said that he needed to cut at least 15% more and he absolutely refused. (that info dates back to their last big announced layoff). I was about the 8500 employee at CSCO, by the time I left in December 2000, there were over 40,000 people.

I agree with you about the killer app/cyclical thing.
