This isn't up to the standard of the debate between Patton and Perl. But I think the best things posted here the last few days regarding US/Europe difference was the pairing of the two articles from Policy Review.

I wonder if it makes sense to have some bookmarks device for the thread to find special postings. For instance, I particularly like the same one you like, jcky's pairing of the Policy Review pieces and I also like the Patten-Perle debate. I'm certain that, if we think about it there are many others.

My problem is that when I point a friend to the thread, it's often these postings I would like for them to read. But it's terribly difficult to find them.

Up to this point, we've sort of relied on very sparse suggestions to Ken that he put them in the thread header. But to do justice to the list, it would make the thread header too long.

Does anyone else have the same concern? If so, is there some way to address it? Ken?

Perl also had the better argument with regard to international law. The UN is a useful treaty organization but is not licensor of all intervening measures countries might take. This for practical, legal and moral reasons.

Good point. I would add, the UN has never been seriously regarded as the sole licensor of all force between countries -- until now, when it has been seized on as the sole possible mechanism to put a drag on US power. Who complained that Kosovo was a NATO action, not a UN action, for example?
