Either way, as it has been in the past, and as it will always be, America will have to defend itself, and it's allies. -------------------- A self-professed literate fellow like you should know better (with reference to the penultimate word in your sentence above) that it's is not a pronoun associated with possession & etc; it's (note the apostrophe) is the contraction for it is, as in "It's unwise to be smug and complacent because of Al-Qaeda's threats." ------------------- The pronoun associated with possession & etc is its (see this word has no apostrophe) as in "The snake is biting its tail."
