Thanx all for the help, I'll follow up with the links to Symantec. I didn't open any attachments or find any. For your information my ISP for the account the problem is with...is in fact SBC/Yahoo. I spent enough time on the phone with the tech support, that I figured they (SBC/Yahoo) knew something, but I slipped up when I mentioned what virus protection software I used. Shortly thereafter they told me it was the problem of the virus software and I had a virus that it can't find.

After putting so much time into this I believe I can tell where this is coming from, so I'll call the folks at SBC/Yahoo and get to some knowledgeable tech...rather than a smoke blower. I should also note there hasn't been anymore since I talked with the ISP, so maybe some other tech followed up on it after I'd hung up. There is some information that indicates it may have been a virus, however, I'm not sure enough to say yet. It appears it had used my machine to ricochet spam mail.
