Why we hate lawyers, right? I agree with you. I've never had an experience like that, though.

I don't share the conventional negative view of lawyers. Lawyers represent clients. If the client isn't willing to press a suit, then there is no suit. If I were to "blame" anyone it's the client. The lawyer may be persuasive, but ultimately the decision falls on the client's shoulders.

My view on education parallels that. Left or right, everyone is blamed for children not learning. Teachers, teachers unions, funds, parents, television....ad nauseum. There is only one person that has the ultimate decision in learning, that's the child. The child is the one person [or thing] that is never "blamed" for not learning. The sooner society places responsibility for "learning" where it belongs, the child, the better off education will be. All the other persons or groups have other responsibilities and should have some sense of accountability for them. But tell the child it's their responsibility to learn.

How are things in the UK? We're having a minor cool snap here, only 20 deg F. No snow yet. None at all.

Cool here, but very pleasant. Typically in the 40's. Not likely that we'll see much snow here.

How accurate is that sunclock program? I was trying to identify a bright star based on it, and the best guess I could make was Venus and Mars superimposed on each other. I don't think that was it.

I'm definitely the wrong person for that question. At least based on being able to use some star chart and pick out stars and planets. It's all a bunch of little lights in the sky to me. I don't expect that to be a skill I ever develop unless I get someone to stand with me and ....See that light...that's Mars on this chart...See that blob over there, that's the Orion nebula....etc.
