Doesn't it make more sense for you to look at the SAN and NAS product road maps of HPQ and SUNW to see if there is even room for NTAP's NAS gateway? I mean, you do perform that minimum level of due diligence, right? Or do you just depend on others to do the thinking for you?

There's no disputing this is a big step for NTAP, Pirate, though perhaps not the decisive moment. I'm sure Gus is right that HP and SUN's roadmaps don't include NTAP... at the moment. But profit potential and a desire to protect their market share might well instigate some changes in their thinking, over time.
